EVERYONE THINKS THAT I HAVE IT ALLC A S T L E W A L L SBUT IT'S SO E M P T Y LIVING BEHIND THESE The Great Hall was buzzing with activity. The food was hot, the conversations were juicy, and the excitement of a new year had everyone on edge. Early term dinners always seemed to hold a sense of magic to them. There was so much to catch up on, so much to learn, and even more to see. Every seat in the hall was filled with hungry students, talking quickly as they filled their bellies to the brim. Each House table had a particular sense to it that made it quite distinct and even more exciting than the other. They all had something new to bring to the table and that was what made dinners always so exciting, particularly when the semester was fresh and the drudgery of assignments loomed in the early future. It was going to be a good year, everyone could feel it.
At the Gryffindor table people were quite vividly speaking of summer tomfoolery, suspected hook ups, and the new rumours already running about the school. It was odd to see the only empty seat in the room be right in the middle of it all. It had not always been like that, only mere moments before it had been occupied by one who had made it his priority over the years to be right in the mix of things. Matty Greyback always loved being in a big group of excited people. He was always in the thick of things and had made quite a respectable name for himself over his years at Hogwarts to be the exception to the rule ‘nice guys finish last.’ He wasn’t sure if he was as nice as his reputation gave off. He did have a dark side that he tried deeply to suppress. He had his issues, like he suspected everyone to have, but he didn’t let it hinder his image. He had worked too hard and built up what many would call the popular guy persona to let it all go down over something so trivial.
Matt had excused himself from dinner and now sat on the steps outside the doors of the Entrance Hall. The stars were gleaming through a cloudy sky as Matt exhaled. For some reason on that night the Great Hall felt particularly crowded. He just needed a bit of air. Despite the fact he liked to pull off his need to be in the mix of things around campus he truly was a bit of a loner at heart. He hated to think that it had anything to do with being a Greyback but deep down he knew it was. He had fought so hard to not be like them. Physically that was no problem. His light complexion, hair, and eyes did that for him. It was the other attributes he had trouble with dealing with. He hated the lot...especially Fenrir for what he had done to his mother. Tonight he was in the presence of a good number of them, particularly the Slytherin Greyback that was in his year. He couldn’t take it...he just needed a moment’s escape.
He pushed his hand through his soft messy hair. He didn’t like when they got the better of him. Usually he would never let it show. Perhaps it had to do with the owl he had received from his Grandmother stating that his mother had gone into one of her fits right after he left.
The chill of the night wrapped around Matt as he stared up at the sky. He could still here the echoes of voices carrying over from the hall and wasn’t aware that the door slid open and he was no longer alone with his thoughts. It's getting hard to find a place to go, Where peaceful waters flow• • • • • •It was a beautiful but windy evening when Lisa came to the great hall for a welcoming dinner and sat down at the slytherin table. She wasn't sitting alone, no, how would she? She's been always surrounded by a huge group of other Slytherins, mostly boys that wanted to get a hot piece of her but also girls who wanted to be like her or thought it was good to have a friend in her. Everyone respected her so much even though she wasn't the nicest girl yet she was a queen. A real socialite. There was many girls, who only dreamed to be like that. She roamed the school as if it was her own, knowing she had everything, power, money, worshipers. It was her perfect façade. It was impossible not to like her. Others thought different though. You either hated or loved Lisa, there was no grey area in the situation. It was just black and white or so it seemed.
She was looking at an empty plate before her. She wasn't hungry. No, she wasn't. But after few minutes a bluberry muffin appeared on her plate and a pumpkin juice next to it. "Whatever" she said to herself and took a bite of a muffin.
But it was going to be a nice evening or so she hope for. No-one trod on Lisa's toe, she did not have to be worry about anything. She walked to the great hall and had 'dinner'. She did not eat to much, as always. If not some of her friends, she would die of malnutrition not even realizing it. But only one was really the one who cared of what Lisa has been eating. The girl always put on Lisa's plate some more food because Lisa takes a bite of something and is ready to go, well maybe after some conversations with her house mates. And it was the same. Lisa took her usual place at the slytherin table and looking at all that food she frowned. She just grabbed that muffin an nibbled on it. Then she poured some pumpkin juice into a goblet. When Lisa was not looking her friend put some more food on her plate. Funny but nice move. Lisa did not notice it and with small smile on her face she stood up and told her mates that she's done.
Walking out from the great hall she could feel couple of eyes on herself. But she just shrugged what was weird for her because she loved being a center of attention. She was on her way to the dungeons when she saw some first years throwing water balloons at each other. As a prefect she should stop them but she didn't really care of it. She always shirked her duties. And she did not want to get wet. Lisa stared at those kids playing their little water fight. It was funny to watch and the thought they they would probably end up with flu made it better. Lisa smirked thinking about it. She really liked thinking of others harm. She did not know why, though. Maybe it was just her Slytherin nature or because of the way she has been brought up. Nonetheless it was not her problem. if they wanted to get sick it was their business. She would do nothing to stop them.
Lisa turned on her foot to continue her way to the dungeons when she heard silent footsteps. Well, it could be anyone. She was used to the fact that boys were following her around the castle. But when she turned her head to take a look she saw no one there. Maybe she just misheard. And this little thing made her change her mind. She wasn't heading to the dungeons anymore. She thought she should get some fresh air so she decided to go out. Opening the great door slightly just so she could slip between Lisa felt a soft breeze of occasional wind of today. It was actually nice and made her smile a bit. It was until then when she spotted a year younger Gryffindor prefect whom she found oddly attractive. A boy seemed to be unaware of her presence and in his own thoughts. A nice smile that previously graced her face turned more into a smirk. Lisa came up to Matt making no sound as she learned from her cat moves. "A sickle for your thoughts, Mr. prefect." she spoke up with a hint of sugar in her voice. • • • • • • TAGS: Matt G. EVERYONE THINKS THAT I HAVE IT ALLC A S T L E W A L L SBUT IT'S SO E M P T Y LIVING BEHIND THESE The night air was cool as the wind lightly moved around, billowing dust from the stone steps and towards the grounds. In the silence of the night Matt felt oddly peaceful. It was a rare occasion when Matt could be found alone but he always liked what the solitude brought. He often found himself surrounded by large groups of people and he did his best to stay right in the middle but there was no denying the fact that he was different from his closest friends. He did things out of the pressure of appearances not because he actually wanted to, and in that, his image was a bit of a fraud. Still, he liked his life for the most part. He was well liked amongst his peer and he had reasonable grades but it was when the silence wrapped itself around him that he felt the most like himself.
"A sickle for your thoughts, Mr. prefect."
Matt jumped slightly as the coy voice that swept passed his ear. He turned slightly and looked up and behind him to see Lisa, that seventh year prefect who always seemed to have about a million boys hanging off her dainty fingers. Personally, Matt didn’t know Lisa all that well. Besides seeing her during patrol and prefect meetings, the two didn’t usually run in the same circles. They had always been relatively friendly towards one another though it wasn’t as if their meetings were a regular occurrence.
“Oh it will cost far more than a sickle, Ms. Prefect,” he said with a playful smirk dancing over his lips.
He let the smile fall over his face to hide the stress that had previously creased his face. His mother, when she wasn’t in one of her fits, had always told him he was a lot more appealing when he smiled. Besides, he wasn’t one to air out his dirty laundry. Things had a habit of spreading around, especially at Hogwarts.
“So I’m guessing you didn’t stop the water balloon fight either?” he asked with a small chuckle, “We must be the two best Prefects in the entire school.” He added sarcastically.
When he had left the Great Hall he had heard the boys mucking about but instead of doing what his prefect privileges enabled him to do he simply shrugged it off and continued outside. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with first year immaturity…plus he remembered doing almost the exact same thing in his first year, only he wasn’t as amateur as to do it so close in proximity to the Great Hall.
He looked at Lisa and slid over so he wasn’t taking the entire step to himself. He turned his body sideways she he was able to lean his back against the wall of the school. He felt his blond hair fall over into his eyes and he absently pushed it back out of his face. His hair never would cooperate when he needed it to. By sixteen he had accepted the fact that it would do as it wished and he simply had to deal with it. He was now facing Lisa and couldn’t help wonder what she was doing outside when the entire party was in the Great Hall. Much like him, Matt knew that Lisa had always been right in the mix of things with her own house. It was odd to see either one of them so far from the commotion.
Sticking his hand in his pocket he pulled out a sickle and as a joke tossed it over to Lisa, “How about you, what brings you out here in the middle of the feast?” he asked curiously. It's getting hard to find a place to go, Where peaceful waters flow• • • • • •Lisa was a girl who made enemies easily just by saying one rude comment. She enjoyed insulting people, showing arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes. She changed her mood a lot and got irritated easily. She believed other were envious of her. She judged people by the cover, wasn’t interested in their problems and was a stereotype Slytherin girl. With a wink of an eye you could become her enemy. Lisa was not a girl who opens up easily. You would have to trick her, enchant her or become alike. Well, there was other way too. If she considered you a friend and had fun with you, she would probably open up enough to you, so you could have known her better. But she did not trust anyone fully. She knew she was not trustworthy so why she should trust anyone else. Lisa did not want anybody think she was a poseur or a fake. She just could not let it happen. She could not help how she was but she did not want to change it either.
Lisa was always a confident figure, cocky and all. She was aware of being a proof of physical perfection but did they see only her beauty or maybe something else. Someone had said she had it all. People respected her although she wasn't the nicest girl. She just had that school in her palms. Almost every Seventh Year Slytherin liked her – even though these ones were already graduated and she was now a seventh year. But how she had done it? She didn't know. It just happened. But was it enough for her? Of course not! She became a prefect and at first she had self-doubt but then after a short conversation with one of her older friends everything was clear. She just had to obtain that position. But she used the prefect badge for her advantage only. She liked getting her enemies in trouble, telling on them. She liked privileges she got with a badge. Using prefect bathroom, prefect lounge was way better than common ones. And she could be up at night wandering school corridors without worrying to get caught. But bringing things back to normal, bringing an order when she had nothing from it just wasn't her thing. No one ever said Lisa does things selflessly.
Lisa waited for any reaction from Matt. He really must have been deep in his thoughts because he jumped slightly at her voice. But Lisa just smiled at it. Someone could say she simply didn't care if she disturbed him and maybe it was true but it didn't matter as he turned to her and decided to reply with that playful smirk of his. She placed her hand on her hip just standing there and looking at the Gryffindor she was strangely nice to even though she seemed not fond of that house.Of course she seemed not fond of any other house but her own, Slytherin but it was common that Slytherins and Gryffindors didn't like each other for ages. It was like one of those unwritten rules you could follow or not.
Lisa was about to say that money is not a problem for her. Besides there were better ways to get information out of someone than paying. Yet, she decided not to and it was good because she heard Matt speak again. It almost made her chuckle too, almost, but it clearly amused her a bit just by the look on her face. "Without a doubt." she said simply. Normally she would say something like: I have better things to do than dealing with some first years and most likely getting wet from that too. But she did not because it sounded more of a respond to a fellow Slytherin who would agree with her than a different boy you didn't speak with much on too many occasions and never knew what kind of reaction you could see. And she wasn't in the mood to make enemies.
A girl watched Matthew for a while. She saw him stick his hand in a pocket and wondered what for. But he pulled out something round and shiny and tossed it over to her. In a slight surprise she caught a coin and smirked some seeing it was actually a sickle. Was it her turn to share her thoughts? A question Matt asked her left no doubt about it. "Well, a sickle would be enough this time either." she winked. "But when you do something for the seventh time and it doesn't surprise you with anything, you may get bored." Lisa gave him a hint of why she was outside with him and not in the great hall as others would expect her to be at. • • • • • • TAGS: Matt G. WORDS: 808 ? EVERYONE THINKS THAT I HAVE IT ALLC A S T L E W A L L SBUT IT'S SO E M P T Y LIVING BEHIND THESE Matt couldn’t help but laugh as his smile spread over his face. These two were the least likely of people to get along, what with the houses they were from and the way they came across to people, and yet they had always been quite cordial with one another. Matt knew the reputation Lisa carried with her. She always held her tough exterior with pride no matter what people were saying behind her back. From what he gathered Lisa’s confidence was just one of the many things she held in her arsenal. It was no wonder she was a Prefect, but then again, he had always heard things about her using her position for the privilege rather than the responsibility. Matt liked to think he was the exact opposite. He took his privilege seriously, but sometimes the pressures around him from his friends were too great to ignore and he too abused his powers a bit. He felt bad, but he figured they all did it at one time or another. He guessed he took his position so seriously because it seemed to signify in his mind the striking difference between him and his many half siblings that ran havoc about the school. He needed this as part of his image to distance himself. He was a Greyback by birth, but never by choice.
“Not like we’ve got competition,” he continued jokingly, “The rest of the Prefect lot are in there stuffing their faces instead of watching stupid first years make a mockery of themselves.”
His smile was almost contagious. It sat tattooed on his face as he laughed at his own witty comment. He had no problem at laughing at his own jokes and while it seemed corny to do so when others did it, Matt always seemed to come across as more endearing than strange. He thought to himself for a moment that there was little chance that he or Lisa would ever stop the first years from flooding the Dungeons. He knew that he would probably have to join in and teach them how to really throw a couple water bombs, while Lisa seemed more the type to watch and laugh at the stupidity. Either way they made quite a team standing outside on a night such as this.
Lisa easily caught the sickle Matt tossed her way. He smirked as she went on about her reasoning for skipping what was likely to be a glorious but predictable first feast. He nodded as he glanced up at the darkening sky. The stars were starting to twinkle as the creasent moon shone over them. He shivered, thinking of the moon. He knew the history his father’s side of the family had. While he was never bitten by Fenrir or any other werewolf he still found himself on edge when a full moon was approaching. Sometimes he even got physically ill. He shook his head and turned his attention back to Lisa.
"But when you do something for the seventh time and it doesn't surprise you with anything, you may get bored."
“Yeah I know what you mean and this is only my sixth time around,” he said as he found himself smirking again when she winked his way, “ It can get a bit crowded in there at times if you know what I mean…but it is your last one, don’t you girls have that sentimental thing about cherishing the memories or whatever the bloody hell it is that would make you want to stay?” he added on teasingly.
He had not anticipated this meeting. He had come out to escape the suffocation of the feast and had found this conversation to be a refreshing change to the norm of another new school year. It's getting hard to find a place to go, Where peaceful waters flow• • • • • •She became from 'Death Eater' family, full of Slytherins, mostly purebloods that believed they're better than others. She just had that school in her palms or so it seemed, or maybe it was just her ego. She had many powerful friends. She didn't need to do anything big, a nod, a slight move of her hand or just one finger were enough to understand for you that there was no joke with her sometimes. A prefect badge helped to. She could report her enemies or enemies of her friends for no particular reason. You didn't want to mess with her then. Yet, Lisa never killed anyone. Yes, she sent a few students to the hospital wing but never even tried to murder. Though, seeing an insane smile she had sometime that times, you would think she was able to do so, torture you with one of the unforgivables and having fun doing so.
Lisa was always bitchy as much as possible. But when it came to boys, especially those who showed an interest for her she turned into somebody else. Maybe not exactly someone else but different for sure. First she could shout at you, catcall you, even hex you. But when you expose liking towards her, when you show she means something more to you, she can be all nice, even caring. Why you ask? The answer is simple. Lisa Green lives for boys and their attention. And if having it meant being nice she could do that. She would flirt with you, pretend that she is fully interested in what you say, who you are. Why again? Just because she was good in taking advantage of somebody's weakness. She usually takes, never gives but to get what she wants she is ready to do anything needed, even better if it meant using her body. Yet, as much tempting as it was she didn't try make Matt have feelings for her and then crash him. She didn't know exactly what the reason was but she shrugged the thought off.
A girl nodded with a smile as if agreeing to what that Gryffindor student said next. If there was a competition of some sort, Lisa would love to be the winner. She really enjoyed being on top. She even would love to rule the world if it was possible, yet without any special effort. "True as that." her voice rang with another short respond. Maybe it was his smile that didn't allow her to speak out any longer sentence. It really in some weird way made her smile brightly as well.
This little conversation they shared was like a new experience for Lisa. They never talked that much, smiled so brightly even shared a few smirks like this early night. It was really nice, she had to admit, yet only inside her head. She would never say it out loud, especially not around her so called friends. She had to keep up appearances, had she not? A soft chuckle escaped Lisa's mouth at Matthew's comment. "You're kidding me?" she started. "I can't wait to get out of this wretched school." it was hard to believe that this girl wanted to leave 'the emporium' she created to live her life of a queen. Was she not interested in it anymore? Or maybe it wasn't enough for her? • • • • • • TAGS: Matt G. WORDS: 568 ? EVERYONE THINKS THAT I HAVE IT ALLC A S T L E W A L L SBUT IT'S SO E M P T Y LIVING BEHIND THESE The start of term feast always held a sense of excitement to it. Though Matt believed it was not a hard sell to students after they spent the majority of their day sitting on a cramped train. Each year it was a chance to catch up with friends you didn’t see over the summer or on the train, meet new students, and get a feel for what the year was going to be like. Of course, after a while he had to admit they got a bit repetitive. The speeches were usually long, drawn out, and exceedingly boring, while the sorting of the first years got ever longer the older Matt became. In that sense he didn’t blame Lisa for wanting to leave. She had attended one more start of term feast than he had and he already found it a bit overdone. Of course, his main reasons for leaving were not the conventional ones. His own issues ever deterred him from being perfectly content in a new year. In many ways Hogwarts was his reprieve from the struggles of real life and here he was trying to escape it as well.
Lisa and Matt were never close friends but one would have to be socially inept not to know the reputation that proceeded her. She tended to come across in most circles as the witch of Slytherin and that was probably putting it mildly. She was blunt, cold, and calculated in her approach with others but from what Matt could remember about their previous brief interactions was something rather different. She was always pleasant with him. Maybe they found an unconscious common ground that neither were aware of…or maybe he just hadn’t had time to piss her off completely. Either way he was happy with their little exchange of words so far.
"You're kidding me? I can't wait to get out of this wretched school."
Matt had to almost do a double take at her words. He tilted his head as he couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows in an amused shock. Despite not knowing Lisa well he did find that he at least thought he knew her type. She had guys wrapped around her small finger. She had girls ready to comply or run in fear. In all accounts, he had thought she would be the one to never want to leave. She was at the top, and in a sense, in her prime and now she wanted to leave it all behind to a world where one could only conclude she would never be on top the way she was here again?
“Well I didn’t see that one coming,” he said with an astonished and rather cheeky grin, “What? Can’t handle all the guys groveling at your feet?” he added jokingly.
He was in no position to judge. People had their reasons for wanting to stay or leave and he found himself flip flopping between the two almost daily. On the one hand, Hogwarts had been more of a home to him than the one his disturbed mother and estranged father could have ever given. It allowed him to be free of the adult stresses that consumed his out of school life. But on the other hand, Hogwarts was a constant battle for Matt to prove to others that he was not who his father and brother and sisters are. He was not a Greyback and he felt that he constantly had to prove this to others as well as himself.
He leaned back so his head touched the wall of the school. He was facing Lisa, wondering if there was more to her than what she wanted people to see. He assumed there was and found himself interested in finding out a bit. It had never really ran across his mind until that point.
“School does get a bit old at times,” he continued, “I guess I’m in the same boat as you with wanting to get out eventually.---At least we won’t have to babysit first year brats after grad!” he added with a light hearted laugh as he brushed his light locks from his eyes.

It's getting hard to find a place to go, Where peaceful waters flow• • • • • • A hard work wasn't Lisa's thing. Everything was always easy for her. Her life was wonderful. She had it all. Besides she was a prefect. How would it look if she got a detention? Of course knowing Lisa and the way she was all those six years spent at Hogwarts, you would be surprised she didn't get it before. She was a rulesbreaker. She didn't really deserve a prefect badge. But she was a popular figure, came from wealth, respected family, many girls were envious of her beauty. She was always very confident and stubborn. She knew what she wanted, what had worth for her. Most of the time she did not care what others thought. Most of the time she did not care about anybody but her closest friends and family. Yet it was common that she could be rude even to them. She did not have many friends or just simple familiars in other houses but Slytherin. Just because she was how she was. Though, it wasn't like that she wanted to socialize with other houses nor did she care. It was very rare when she came along with someone out of her house but when something like that happened it meant she valued that someone, or if it was a boy, he had to be handsome and usually up for something more with her. No questions asked. It did not mean she had no enemies in Slytherin, because she did. There were few of them that annoyed her and she could not stand. But this Gryffindor boy... Lisa didn't exactly knew how she felt about him. She was very kind toward him what was very rare when it came to Gryffindors. Yes, he was handsome and Lisa would not mind having a thing with him. But she must have valued something more about him without a doubt.
She felt like a queen, like goddess. And she needed to be treated like that. She needed to feel important and cherished. She needed to feel beautiful and wanted. And she could get it all here, at Hogwarts. So why again did she want to leave? Maybe because it wasn't enough for her and she wanted something new and more exciting. Maybe she really got bored with that all. Maybe she wanted to conquer the adult world. She was sure it may shock him or maybe just surprise. She was not mistaken but she said the truth. But a jocular comment Matt gave her in addition surprised her in return. "What? Can't handle all the guys groveling at your feet?" Lisa didn't know if it was just a joke, something to make the both of them chuckle together or if it was what he really thought about her and wanted to cut her to the quick what others usually were too afraid to do. But she assumed he didn't mean to offend her. Yet, her face expressed something between disaffection and suspense as she narrowed her eyes slightly and smiled a bit crookedly. "I would not have any problem with it." she replied with the safest words she could come up with.
Lisa crossed her arms taking a defensive attitude. It was her natural reaction. She didn't feel the need to do anything else in that case. It was supposed to be a nice conversation, or was it not? She watched him lean back and wondered if he had something more to say. And he did. Expression on her face softened and a casual smile crawled back onto her lips. "This is one of the advantages of being out of school, indeed." she nodded lightly. "And it reminds me I'll have to walk them to their dorms." she rolled her eyes clearly discontent of that bounden duty. • • • • • • TAGS: Matt G. WORDS: 637?
