Lily had a theory. Long ago, before the first students walked through the doors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the four founders realized that learning magic was too fun. What student didn't want to learn how to make objects levitate and brew potions that could make someone else fall in love, or knock out a man 'the size of a mountain' with a single sniff? Learning about magic and how to perform it was fun, and the general consensus around the world and teenagers everywhere was that school couldn't be fun. Muggles moaned about it all the time with their Maths and English lessons. School was supposed to be a chore, not a vacation and a fun escape with friends where anything was possible. So, Lily thought, the founding four discovered an issue with their plan for Hogwarts. It couldn't all be fun and games, because that ruined the point of a school. Their solution?
History of Magic.
It sounded kind of interesting, didn't it? Maybe not like a really thrilling class, but at least slightly interesting. From what the name suggested, you'd learn about wizard battles, great moments in magic's past, and things like that. It kind of sounded cool. But nowhere in the name of the class was there a mention of the endless projects and research papers that plagued the class, or of the droning, mindless voice of the professor, or of the fact that watching a fly buzz and die against the window sill was a more enjoyable time. The only reason she hadn't dropped it was because she'd had a free period of time during the day, and decided to fill it with a class to keep all of her options open in the future if her auror plans fell through. She had figured that taking a class was better than sitting around in the commons room doing nothing, right? Only a few weeks into the school year she'd realized how unfortunate her decision had been.
That was what she'd done all of the class today, well, kind of. While the professor stood at the front of the room, giving some lecture on giants, she'd watched a poor, pitiful fly buzz against the glass window in the stifling hot room, desperately trying to escape to fresh air and freedom. She wished that she'd been able to open the window and let it out, but if the professor had seen her moving she could have been targeted to answer a question, and she had no clue what he was talking about at all. Giants, maybe? Or was it something about mermaids? Eh, doesn't matter. She'd ask one of her classmates to fill her in on the day's lesson that evening, back in the common room.
"Miss Potter?"
"Mhmm?" Barely even registering who was speaking to her, Lily had forced her eyes away from the window and fly.
"Care to answer the question?" Oh great. It was the professor. Had she just jinxed herself? Yeah, she must have.
"Um... Karkus?" It was the one name from this class that she could remember off of the top of her head.
There was a chorus of giggles and chuckles throughout the classroom, but the professor was not amused. "Miss Potter, I fail to see what a giant Gurg has to do with your opinion on the treatment of centaurs."
Oooh... so that was what they were talking about today. "Sorry... I don't know what I was thinking."
"Neither do I. Perhaps you can enlighten me with a three page essay on the class topic to be handed in tomorrow."
Lily could have kicked herself. She just had to get distracted and get extra work piled on to her schedule, didn't she? She already had homework in potions class, and quidditch practice tonight! "Just freaking brilliant, Lily," she muttered under her breath.
"What was that, Miss Potter?"
"Nothing, sir."
So, as soon as all classes were complete for the day, Lily dragged herself to the library, feeling and looking like a woman on death row the entire way. It was beautiful outside! She should be hanging out with friends, laughing and catching up on the latest gossip and events. But nooo, she had to research an entire class' lesson and write out three pages of an essay on it in an hour and a half before quidditch practice. She plunked her books and bag down at one of the tables near the windows, thinking that torturing herself with a view of nature and freedom might inspire her to get her mindless task done sooner. She gathered a few books from the shelves that looked like they might have something to do with centaurs, dumped them on the table, and bent herself over her parchment.
"Oh, centaurs, you have no idea how much I hate you right now..."

* why live life from dream to dream, and dread the day when dreaming ends- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - THUMP... Aurelia plopped down onto one of the benches just outside the Library, not able to muster up the energy to actually walk inside at the moment, and let her school bag drop to the ground in front of her. Why must being a Prefect be so much torture?... Her eyes fell to the Prefect's badge pinned to her blue cardigan and then glanced just down the corridor where a couple Slytherin males were grinning cheekily at her.. And why does it always have to be the Slytherin's?... She absolutely hated the House rivalries. She thought they were absolutely ridiculous, but over her past two years as a Prefect, she now understood why so many despised Slytherins. A light sigh escaped her mouth as she leaned forward, burying her face in her hands and rubbing her temple, trying to calm the raging migraine that had been threatening to make her head explode ever since she started lecturing those boys.
"They are so damn lucky Prefects can't take points from other houses.." Aurelia blinked, realizing her last comment had been out loud, and her face turned a light shade of red as she buried her face into her hands more. Stupid... stupid.... stupid... The image of her mentally kicking herself ran through her mind over and over again, one kick for everytime she said 'stupid'. Bringing her face out of her hands she let out a long, significantly annoyed, sigh and reached her hand out in front of her to retrieve her bag. Hoisting it up and over her shoulder she stood in place, taking in a quick breath to try and settle herself down. Her eyes lingered on the wall in front of her as she tried not to look back in the direction of the boys who had caused her this tension in the first place.
Taking a quick turn to her right she let her head drop to stare at the floor just in front of her as she steadily made her way for the library doors. She quickly wrapped her thin fingers around the handle and gently pulled it open so as to not draw attention to herself from the people already inside. Her eyes shot towards the boys one last time as she let off a aggravated sneer in their direction before stepping inside the doors and pulling them shut behind her. All she wanted to do now was read. She had just finished her mid day patrols and she still had a little free time before she had to make her way to her Charms class. The Library seemed the safest place. The common room never panned out whenever she was there. Either there was too much noise or a lower year always had question they needed answering.
Glancing around the room she was surprised to see how many students where sitting at the desks. Then again... it is mid-day. A genuine smile formed on Aurelia's face for the first time in hours. Now where to sit? As her eyes continued to scan the room, though she lingered on on particular table for a few seconds. It was the only table that she could see that had only one student sitting at it. A single ginger haired girl sat at the table, hovering intently over a vast amount of books in front of her. Aurelia couldn't help but blush as she let her eyes scan the girls body. She's cute. With a small, almost non-audible giggle Aurelia made her way to the table stopping just behind a chair across for the ginger haired girl.
"Excuse me?" Aurelia smiled softly, her tone was considerably happier then it had been just minutes ago. How could it not? She was looking at a rather beautiful girl right in front of her. And even if this girl didn't turn out to be interested in her gender in a romantic way, there would be no harm in trying to befriend her. "Um.. Wo-would it be alright if I sat here? Ev-everywhere else is pretty full up." A rush of warmth flowed through Aurelia's face as she felt herself blush. She couldn't believe it. Did she really just stutter? Of all the ways she could make herself look like an idiot she just HAD to stutter. Pull it together woman!! Aurelia forced herself back into the present and out of her thoughts and glanced around the books in front of the girl and back to her as she waited for the girl's answer. Hopefully the girl didn't think Aurelia was too much of an idiot.

EVERYONE THINKS THAT I HAVE IT ALLC A S T L E W A L L SBUT IT'S SO E M P T Y LIVING BEHIND THESE The halls were buzzing as students shuffled out of classes towards their dorms, Great Hall, or another class. It was yet another tired day of classes for the students of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Walking out of Charms, a jubilant Matthew Greyback turned his head back towards his friends to laugh at a joke while at the same time trying to shove various papers into his shoulder bag. It had been a long day of classes for him, and it wasn’t about to get any easier. For him, the day of classes was over, but unfortunately the work was far from over. His lovely Charms Professor has given the class an assignment that day that said would ‘rein in their focus’ for the year. Unfortunately that meant a long night ahead. It was as if the professor didn’t realize people had a life and other classes outside of his own. Well, it seemed Matt would be missing dinner that evening for he had a hot date with the Library.
”I’m just going to make something up and hand it in.” said one of Matt’s friends as they walked down the hallway. He crumpled the parchment in a ball and threw it over a group of people so it hit a passing Slytherin first year.
Matt snorted a laugh as he shook his head. He and his friends were always doing stupid things like this. While some would call them idiotic, immature boys, it was astounding at how much the group was praised for their antics. It was the perks of being well liked, Matt guessed, and it was one of the many privileges he hoped to keep for the rest of his duration at Hogwarts.
“Well at least you’ll give old Flitwick a laugh before he fails you,” Matt retorted with a sly grin as he adjusted his bag on his shoulder, “ I’m heading out, I’ll see you guys later.”
”Yeah, later nerd!” laughed one of his mates as Matt separated himself from the group of boys. He waved a hand dismissively behind him and continued on his way.
Before long he had arrived to the quite solitude of the Library. The stench old, moldy books were prominent which made Matt cringe in spite of himself. He never much liked the library, but he had become more accustomed to it as he had gotten older and was forced to use it for its many resources. He pushed his hand through his light hair and scanned the room. His brilliant blue eyes landed on the Librarian, he gave a polite wave to her before pulling out his assignment and heading into the depths of the stacks.
Staring down at the paper he tried to figure out what exactly he needed to do to complete the assignment. It was slightly complex but nothing he couldn’t finish if he put his mind to it. Every so often he looked up to see what section he was in and to see if any of the books around him would be of any help. He had yet to find success. He was never good at finding things, especially something a part of him really wouldn’t be too upset if he never found.
"Um.. Wo-would it be alright if I sat here? Ev-everywhere else is pretty full up."
He looked up in time to see two girls at an almost empty table; Lily Potter and Aurelia Parker. He knew Lily as they were in the same house and at least knew Aurelia’s name as she was in a number of his classes before. She was a Ravenclaw---wait, she probably knew the library pretty well, or was that just being stereotypical of him to assume that? He didn’t much know and before he could figure it out he was already walking towards them, parchment still clutched in his hand.
“Hey guys, how’s it going?” he said, slightly interrupting the conversation, “Hey, I was wondering if you guys knew where I could find---“ he looked back down at the parchment begrudgingly, “ stuff on lifting charms?”
His distaste for the assignment was becoming more apparent the longer Matt spent time with it. Oh the joys of being back at school.
